Have you ever been a bully, or been bullied?

Recently some of Mitt Romney's former classmates told stories of high school bullying by the presumed Republican presidential nominee. Romney has apologized for pranks that he said "might have gone too far".

It reminded us of this story, about a man who apologized to his seventh-grade teacher 39 years after realizing he'd hurt him.

We want to understand what motivates bullies and what the long-term effects can be (both on the bullied and the bullies themselves). If you have experience with this topic -- whether it was in school, at work, with strangers, family or friends -- we'd like to hear about it.
