How does your church talk politics?

California Watch

In the lead-up to the Nov. 6 presidential election, about 1,600 religious leaders around the country participated in Pulpit Freedom Sunday, challenging a 1954 law that bans tax-exempt churches from supporting candidates during worship services.

California Watch reporter Amy Julia Harris highlights the churches' clash with the IRS in a new story looking at the different ways that religious leaders have incorporated political candidates into their messages. In the 58 years the law has been on the books, the IRS has revoked a church's tax-exempt status for its involvement in politics only once, according to IRS records.

That got us wondering: How do you feel about the integration of politics in church? Did your church leaders weave the 2012 election into their messages? Share your insights below to help inform a discussion on our website.
