How do you define a hate crime?

One of the most charged phrases related to the issue of discrimination is "hate crime." What one person sees as a random street crime may be seen by another person as a targeted attack. Hate crimes can have a variety of motivations: race or ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, economic or social status. As part of a broader look at hate crimes and discrimination, Fronteras: The Changing America Desk wants to start by asking how you see things. How do you define a hate crime? What is your experience related to hate crimes and discrimination?

Everything you share will be read by journalists only, and your responses are confidential unless you tell us we may publish them. If you have any questions about this project, contact Nick Blumberg.
