Do You Know A Young Adult Who's Neither In School Nor Working?

The number of young adults, ages 16 to 24, who are neither working nor in school is growing. In total 5.8 million young Americans, or 14.7 percent of the U.S. population, make up this demographic.

Of the 25 largest metropolitan areas, Phoenix has seen the highest number of people in this category. Nearly one in five young adults are disconnected from school and work. San Diego has one of the lowest rates. Only 11 percent of youth in the city are disconnected.

There are many reasons why a young adult may be neither working nor in school. We are hoping to hear their unique stories. Does this apply to you? Or do you know have a child or family member who is disconnected in Phoenix or San Diego? How are they spending their time? How is it affecting their lives?

Everything you share will be read by journalists only, and your responses are confidential unless you tell us we may publish them. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact John Rosman
