With the deadline for filing income taxes approaching fast, TV airwaves and internet banners are full of ads offering solutions. Few will deny that the tax code is confusing: a sea of credits, deductions, tables, and worksheets.

Some of us have been navigating the tax code for years and know it like the back of our hand. Some of us may once have been able to file on our own but now find it too confusing. Some of us may have very basic returns.
