Are you a self-employed farmer who buys your own health insurance?

Farmers and other small business owners often buy health insurance on the individual or "small group" market. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) may impact the options and costs of these policies, particularly with the creation of health care exchanges. Last year, Practical Farmers of Iowa commissioned a study, Farmers' Health Insurance Needs, which found that "In Iowa, 43 percent of farmers and ranchers purchase health insurance on the individual market compared to about 9 percent of adults (19-64) nationally with private health insurance and compared to 7 percent of Iowa adults (19-64)." These policies tend to be more expensive than health insurance purchased through an employer or a larger group.
