Herald Haiku Challenge

What's up South Florida?

Here's your chance to express yourself by writing a haiku poem about news items you read in The Miami Herald during the month of April. Grand Prize is two tickets to see James Franco read poetry at the New World Symphony. Here's one for inspiration.

How to Enter:

Rules:
-Haiku must be about a South Florida news story that ran in the Miami Herald from Friday, April 1, until Monday, April 18.
-Haiku must be three lines long, the first line with five syllables, the next seven syllables, and the last line five syllables.
-Haiku can be in English, Spanish, or Creole, or some combination thereof.
-Any vulgar or obscene poems will be disqualified. Wit and humor however will be rewarded.
-No limit to the number of haiku you can submit. Only one poem per submission.
-The entry must be received by Monday, April 18 at 6 p.m.
- Employees of WLRN, the Miami Herald and the Miami Poetry Collective are not eligible.

Deadline:
Monday, April 18 at 6 p.m.

Judging:
Fouryoucansee Collective, authors of the book, Hialeah Haiku, will pick the finalists.

Winner:
The winner will read his/her poem on air and will receive two free tickets to see James Franco read poetry at the New World Center Symphony Hall on Friday, April 29, 2011. Ten finalists will receive O, Miami tote bags. All finalists will be published in the Miami Herald.
