What do you wish someone had told you about life with autism?

Much attention has been focused on education and treatment for children with autism. Little attention has been paid to what happens as they transition into adulthood.

American Public Media has been collaborating with the The New York Times on a series called "Autism, Grown Up.'' We've asked the question: As these children age, what challenges and rewards are in store for both them and their communities?

Now we're hoping to turn our work into a book and we'd love your help. The book will not only showcase New York Times reporter Amy Harmon's stories (you can find samples here and here), but will also include a series of brief first-person accounts about life on the autism spectrum.

We're hoping this book can both bridge understanding between those who have direct experience with autism and those who don't, and act as a resource for those living with or caring for someone with autism.

If you have an autism spectrum disorder or if you're a parent, sibling, romantic interest, co-worker, or teacher of someone who does, please share your experience below.

Due to volume, your story might not appear in the book, but please know that everything you write will be read and will inform our editorial decisions.
