Are you planning to shop during the state tax holiday?

Both North and South Carolina will hold state tax holidays Aug. 5-7. Items such as clothes, computers and many school supplies will be discounted by about 7 percent, since they'll be tax exempt. Although some critics say such "holidays" are distortionary and simply shift spending from other weekends, rather than generating demand, the holidays are consistently popular with consumers.
