From Nick Blumberg, PIN analyst in the Fronteras newsroom:
I grew up on the far north side of Chicago, and came to Arizona to attend the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. I was part of the Murrow and PRNDI-award winning team at KJZZ that covered Arizona’s controversial SB 1070 anti-immigration law throughout 2010.
When I moved to Arizona to attend college, it opened my eyes to the variety and complexity of issues in the Southwest.
I love working for Fronteras, because we get a chance to cover border, immigration and demographics issues in depth. Using the PIN helps Fronteras find voices for our stories that haven’t been heard before. I want to use the PIN to tell untold stories, and to create a dialogue between journalists and the public. I want to engage communities on the issues important to them.
Previously, I served as an Associate Producer for KJZZ’s Here and Now, a news and public affairs talk show covering the Phoenix area. When I’m not working, I try to spend as much time outside as I can – at least during the part of the year when it’s not 100-something degrees.
