Does a developmentally disabled loved one live in a group home or state-run developmental center?
In an ongoing series, California Watch public safety reporter Ryan Gabrielson has spent a year writing about the Office of Protective Services (OPS), a police department charged with protecting about 1,600 severely disabled patients who live in California's five developmental centers.
Since 2009, residents at the institutions have reported 36 potential cases of sexual abuse. Our new story highlights several of these cases, which were all either ignored or mishandled by OPS.
Have you heard of any such incidents at developmental centers? California Watch wants to hear about your experience. Everything you share within the Public Insight Network is confidential unless you give us explicit permission to publish it.
